Senior Ed Matyka made history last month by being Riverhead’s first All American Wrestler after placing fifth in a National competition.
Highlights of Ed’s season include winning the Suffolk County League IV Championships, where he overcame a 5-0 deficit in the final half-minute of the third period to win his first county title in triple overtime. He was named the tournament’s outstanding wrestler. He was the only wrestler sent by Riverhead to the New York State meet, where he secured his 100th career win and placed fourth in the state.
Ed attended the National meet in Virginia Beach the weekend of March 27. After taking fifth place, he was named All American, the first in Riverhead High School history.
