2014 0422 school board

There are five candidates seeking two open seats on the Riverhead Board of Education this year.

Board vice president Susan Koukounas, whose term expires June 30, is seeking re-election. The other incumbent whose term is up, Tom Carson, is not running again.

Former board president Ann Cotten-DeGrasse is seeking a new, three-year term on the board.

Two unsuccessful candidates in 2014, Laurie Downs and Greg Fischer, are running again this year.

A newcomer, Bradford Harnig, has also entered the race.

District clerk Barbara O’Kula conducted a lottery for ballot positiosn this morning at the district office.

The ballot on school district election day, May 19, will appear as follows:
1. Gregory John Fischer
2. Susan Koukounas
3. Bradford Harnig
4. Ann Cotten-DeGrasse
5. Laurie A. Downs.

Only Fischer was on hand this morning to watch the drawing. He is also looling to run for town board or town supervisor and is screening with the Riverhead Democrats, he said.

The school board position is a volunteer post.
