Riverhead Town Police have charged three people in an underage alcohol sales sting operation conducted yesterday.

Out of 24 locations checked for compliance, three – the Hessmart at 6305 Route 25A in Wading River, OK Petro at 1212 East Main Street in Riverhead and the Riverhead Supermarket and Deli at 945 West Main Street in Riverhead — were found to be in violation of the law prohibiting the sale of alcohol to patrons under the age of 21, police said.

Barry L. Gamble, 59, of Wading River, Henry Castillo, 22, of Howard Beach and one male juvenile were arrested and charged with Unlawfully Dealing With a Child in the first degree under N.Y. State Penal law section 260.20 (2), according to a police press release.

These checks are part of an ongoing effort by the Riverhead Town Police Department to ensure New York State Liquor Authority and New York State Penal Law compliance for the sale of alcohol to minors.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
