Maryanna Ekster of New Suffolk died at her home on Saturday, April 25, 2015. She was 86 years old.

She was born in Greenport, NY on March 27, 1939 to Michael and Stefania (nee Baraczewski) Sawicki and was a graduate of Mattituck High School

On September 25, 1949, she married Frank Ekster at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue.

Mary had been a school bus driver and custodian for New Suffolk School for over forty years.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of Ostrabrama Parish and a former Columbiette and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Cutchogue Fire Department.

Predeceased by her husband Frank and a son Ronald; she is survived by a daughter Diane Surozenski of Cutchogue and son Lawrence Ekster of Cutchogue; a brother Edward Sawicki; two sisters Eugenia Beebe and Stella Hughes; seven grandchildren: Michael Ekster of Gray Maine, Christopher Ekster of Southold, Timothy Ekster of Cutchogue, Michelle Ekster of Cutchogue, Teri Schusteritsch of Cutchogue, Lori Surozenski of Laurel and Joseph Ekster of Laurel and three great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by siblings: Stanley Sawicki, Helen Lech and Richard Sawicki.

The family received friends on Monday, April 27th at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold where parish prayer services were conducted that evening. The Liturgy of Christian Burial as celebrated on Tuesday, April 28th at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church by Father Piotr Narkiewicz. Interment was in Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.
