Harold E. Goodale Sr., a lifelong Riverhead resident died at his home on April 30, 2015. He was 92 years old.

He was born in Babylon on September 20, 1922 to Jesse R. and Lavina (Ketchem) Goodale.

He attended Riverhead High School, where he excelled in sports. Goodale was the Suffolk County wrestling champion (105 lbs.) in 1939, 1940 and 1941. In his senior year he went undefeated and took the 1941 Long Island championship. He also earned county titled in cross country track in 1941 and table tennis doubles in 1940 with Bill Demetriou. After high school graduation in 1941 he served in the N.Y. Guard, from April 1943 through April 1945.

Goodale was a lifelong farmer who grew potatoes and cauliflower. He was a cofounder of Riverhead Building Supply.

He married Gene Tyte on Dec. 9, 1944 and raised a family of five children.

Goodale was a member of the Capital City Carvers in Tallahassee, Florida, the International Order of Oddfellows and Old Steeple Community Church.

In addition to his wife of 70 years, he is survived by his daughter, Noel DeLong and her husband Jim, of Florida; his son Harold Jr., and his wife Penny, of Riverhead, his daughter, Barbara Warner, of Jamesport, his daughter, June Stevenson and her husband Rick, of Tennessee, and his daughter, Holly Chew and her husband Skee, of Riverhead.

He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his grandson, Ben R. Goodale in 2013, his grandson, Joey Chew in 2006 and his brother Jesse R. Goodale II in 2014.

The family will receive visitors at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead on Monday, May 4 from 3:30 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 5 at 10:30 a.m. at Old Steeple Community Church in Aquebogue. Interment will follow at Aquebogue Cemetery.
