(Updated: May 13, 8 a.m.) The armed robber who held up a West Main Street pizzeria last night remains at large, Riverhead Police Chief David Hegermiller said this morning.

The gunman, who according to police matches the same general description of the man who held up Barth’s Drug Store on East Main Street Friday, held up Uncle Joe’s Pizza at about 8:15 p.m. Monday, police said.

He pointed a handgun at an employee and demanded cash, according to a police press release issued early Wednesday morning. He was given an undetermined amount of cash and fled on foot in an unknown direction following the holdup, police said. There were no customers inside the pizzeria at the time; no one was injured in the incident.

Riverhead police and state troopers, with the assistance of a K9 unit from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, canvassed the area with no result, Lt. David Lessard said Monday night.

The robber was described by police as a black male, 6′ to 6′-2″ tall, wearing a black hooded jacket and dark-colored pants and a bandana over his face. The man who robbed the drug store Friday wore a gorilla mask.  The mask was not recovered, Hegermiller said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500.
