Riverhead Fire Department Ex-Cheif Joseph Gadzinski was honored Tuesday night at the Riverhead Fire Department for 50 years of service as a firefighter.
Gadzinski, 72, first joined the department on May 13, 1965 and went on to serve in many different positions: Lieutenant (1976-1977), First Lieutenant (1978), Captain (1979-1981), Chief of the Department (1985-1986), District Commissioner (1987-2001), Deputy Treasurer (2002-2009), Assistant Secretary (2007) and District Secretary (2008-2009).
“Fifty years – what an accomplishment,” Peter Cincotta, president of Suffolk County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, said at the dinner before presenting him with a certification of appreciation from the association. “1965 was a long time ago. Thank you so much for your service.”
