Riverhead police detectives have charged an Aquebogue man in a string of residential burglaries in Jamesport and Aquebogue since October.

Police said Peter J. Gevinski Jr., age 26, burglarized homes on Ziemacki Lane and Windy Acres in Jamesport and on Hilton Court in Aquebogue, stealing an assortment of jewelry and cash.

Gevinski was taken into custody yesterday at the Suffolk County Criminal Court building in Riverhead, police said.

Gevinski pleaded guilty to felony drug charges in February 2013 and was released on his own recognizance that August, pending sentencing, after spending 10 months in the county jail, according to online court records. The case is still pending in the county court, where Gevinski, who awaits formal sentencing, was next scheduled to appear on Monday, May 18.

Gevinksi was arraigned in Riverhead Justice Court yesterday on two counts of burglary in the second degree and one count of grand larceny in the third degree. He was remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 cash bail, police said.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
