Congratulations to U.S. Marine Corps PFC Kevin H. Thomas, who completed boot camp this month at the top grad in his entire company of more than 300 Marines.

The Jamesport resident, a 2013 graduate of Bishop McGann-Mercy High School was an exemplary recruit throughout 13 weeks of rigorous training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina, USMC recruiter Sgt. Pablo Abad said. He led his platoon as a guide from start to finish, Abad said, an achievement that’s very rare, the sergeant said.

Thomas’ character, leadership abilities and physical prowess led his senior drill instructors to select him as the Honor Graduate of Platoon 2037, Echo Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion on Parris Island, according to the sergeant.

It’s “the toughest boot camp this country has to offer,” Abad said.

Thomas is joining USMC Force Recon, a special operations division of the Corps reserved for only the most elite Marines.

“This young man is someone for others to emulate,” Sgt. Abad writes of his recruit. “I’m very proud of his accomplishments and proud that there are still young man and women in our community who defend our country.”

Tuthill, 19,  is the son of Charles and Dawn Thomas of Jamesport.
