An elderly woman crashed her car into a building on Kroemer Avenue early Wednesday evening. Police said the woman was attempting to maneuver out of a parking space in the lot outside North Shore Christian Church in Riverhead and “got confused,” put her car in drive instead of reverse and pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.
She crashed her vehicle into the door of the church, located at 120 Kroemer Avenue next to Planet Fitness. The impact broke the front door of the church. One employee was inside and just about to leave the office when he heard “a loud smash.”
The driver of the vehicle, a 2015 Toyota Avalon, was not seriously injured. The employee inside the church office was not injured.
