About a dozen volunteers turned out this morning for Riverhead’s annual spring cleanup, organized by Councilman James Wooten.
The volunteers split into four work details and picked up trash along Oliver Street, Osborn Avenue just south of Route 58, Ostrander Avenue, just north of Route 58 and Northville Turnpike, opposite Kmart.
The town supplied volunteers with vests, plastic trash bags, gloves and equipment to get the job done.
Wooten said there did not seem to be as much litter along the roads this year as in years past.
“Maybe people are becoming more conscious of it and littering less,” the councilman said. “The areas we usually pick up are looking better this year.”
