World War II veteran John H. Beacorn of Riverhead died May 26, 2015 at the Oak Hollow Nursing Home in Middle Island. He was 91 years old.

He was born in Lynbrook on November 19, 1923 to Daniel and Mary (Honeyman) Beacorn. After graduating from Hewlett High School, he served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as a staff sergeant from 1943 to 1945. He was part of the 452nd Bombardment Group, 731st squad.

He married Jean Swartz on August 2, 1947 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Garden City. They lived in North Bellmore for 27 years before moving to Riverhead 26 years ago. Beacorn worked at Ambac Industries until he retired in 1989.

He was a history buff who loved old coins and antique cars. He was a self-taught “Mr. Fix-it.”

In addition to his wife of nearly 68 years, he is survived by his daughters, Anne Annable of Chaplin, Connecticut, Kathryn Pietronuto of Selden and Mary Urso of Effort, Pennsylvania; his sons, John of Ilion, New York, Patrick of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Thomas of Watkinsville, Georgia.

He is also survived by a sister, Mary Weidner, of Huntington and by 26 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

He was predeceased by his brother Daniel.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, May 28, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral Mass will be held Friday at 10:45 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Riverhead. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
