Four Riverhead Middle School honors music ensembles traveled to Bristol, CT on Saturday, May 30, to compete in the annual Music in the Parks Festival where they received five trophies.  After the performances, the students and approximately 35 parent chaperones enjoyed a day at Lake Compounce amusement park.

A very successful day for the Middle School as the school was awarded the coveted Esprit de Corps Award. This trophy is presented to students from a school who demonstrates proper social behavior as well as musical behavior/encouragement – students who possess the qualities of highly successful people who are sensitive to the feelings of others and applaud accomplishments no matter if by one’s own school or another school. Participants in the Music in the Parks event are observed and evaluated from the time they arrive at the festival site through the awards presentation. All schools are eligible for this award, but only one group will have the honor of taking this trophy with them back to their school.

Results of the festival are as follows:

  • RMS Wind Ensemble First place Superior rating.  Best Overall Concert Band of the day
  • RMS Jazz Band First place Superior rating. Best Overall Jazz Band of the day.  Best over Jazz solo of the day Nikita Sipiaguine
