Riverhead Police are seeking the public’s help to locate a man with a four-door red Toyota who reportedly threatened a shopper at Tanger Outlets with what appeared to be a handgun after stealing three shopping bags of merchandise from him.

Police said two men who’d been shopping at Tanger Outlets Sunday afternoon placed three shopping bags on the ground behind their parked vehicle and walked to the front of their vehicle. An unknown male then took the bags and fled in a red vehicle.

One of the victims chased the the vehicle on foot, police said. The vehicle turned around in the parking lot and as it passed the victim, the driver displayed what appeared to be a handgun and told him, “Don’t come closer or I will shoot you,” according to a police press release.

Anyone with any information about the theft is asked to contact the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500, Ext. 302.
