Riverhead Police are investigating a possible assault at the Quick Stop Deli at 1172 West Main Street in Riverhead.

Police said they were called to the deli, just east of Mill Road, and interviewed a victim who told officers he was struck in the head with a stick by a man known to him only as “Marvin.”

The victim was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of a laceration to the top of his head, police said.

Riverhead Police detectives investigating the incident learned that the victim, who identified himself to police as Manuel Garcia, had provided poice with a false name. Detectives determined the victim’s identity to be Juan Canel, 27, of Flanders,

The investigation into the alleged assault is ongoing, police said. Anyone with information is requested to contact the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500.
