Police are seeking the public’s help to identify a man they say passed counterfeit bills at a Calverton gas station last month.
Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives and Suffolk County Crime Stoppers released surveillance camera images of a man they say used counterfeit money at the Exxon Station at 1 Edwards Avenue in Calverton, near the L.I. Expressway entrance ramp.
A man police described as black, in his early 20s, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds used a counterfeit $20 bill to make a purchase at the Exxon station at about 10:05 p.m. on May 13. He left in a dark-colored pickup truck, police said.
Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
