(Correction appended) Independence Day is observed today across the United States.

State, county and local government offices are closed today. The stock markets are closed today. It’s a federal holiday but the U.S. Postal Service is conducting business as usual. Post offices are open today, but closed tomorrow, July 4.

Banks have the option to remain open in New York and most local bank branches will be open today during regular banking hours. All will be closed tomorrow.

There will be regular municipal trash pickup today for customers in the Riverhead Town garbage districts.

The Long Island Railroad will operate on a regular weekday schedule today. The the 3:55 p.m. train from Penn Station will connect at Ronkonkoma for the 5:21 eastbound train making all stops to Greenport. There will be regular weekend service on the North Fork July 4 and 5.

Suffolk County Transit buses will operate on a regular weekday schedule today. The East End’s S92 line, which traverses the twin forks connecting Orient and East Hampton will operate tomorrow, as will the 10C line from East Hampton to Montauk. The county bus line providing service to Robert Moses State Park on Fire Island will also run tomorrow. Otherwise, there is no county bus service July 4.

New York City subways and buses will operate on a Saturday schedule today. Alternate-side-parking regulations are suspended.
