Brendan House, Riverhead’s new home for survivors of traumatic brain injury, has set up an online donations page through GoFundMe.

After more than three years of major renovations, the house is almost finished – but an unexpected $40,000 water hookup bill has significantly set back progress.

“If we had the money, we could open in a month,” Allyson Scerri, director of New Beginnings, said in a previous article. “It’s very frustrating.”

The Sound Avenue farmhouse that will house 12 traumatic brain injury survivors is not hooked up to Riverhead’s water district, Scerri recently discovered. “We’re going to have to go under the concrete to hook it up,” she said. “That’s worth several fundraisers at least.”

In addition to the GoFundMe donations website, a roaring ’20s-themed annual gala will be held at the East Wind in November to raise money for the group home. Click here to buy tickets online.
