Who Are Those Guys kicked off the 2015 Townscape Summer Concert Series last night in Grangebel Park.

The neo-classic rock and blues band (Pat Petrosini, on conga drums, Doug Attridge on guitar, Lindsay Reeve on harmonica, Marty Attridge on guitar, Jim Gorman on bass and Tom Daly on drums) entertained concert-goers on the lawn in front of the stage overlooking the Peconic River. A good crowd turned out for the series opener on a mild summer evening.

Townscape will host free concerts in the park every Friday evening through Aug. 14.  The lineup of musical talent has been changed up a bit this year, said Councilman James Wooten, who handled the scheduling.

Next up: Larry Liso on July 17. The Long Island Sound Symphony Orchestra performs July 24. On July 31: Media Crime.

There will be two performances on Aug. 7, the evening of the second annual JumpstART presented by East End Arts. At 5 p.m. on Aug. 7, tenor Jose Coropuna takes the audience on a “Musical Journey Through Riverhead”  in a concert presented as part of the JumpstART program. The 7 p.m. Townscape concert that evening features The Steel Silk Band. The series wraps up on Aug. 14 with The Precisions.

Last night, Dark Horse Restaurant owner Dee Muma gave away free pulled pork sliders and lemonade at the Grangebel Park pump house, which she plans to open daily for lunch. Muma said she expects to open as soon as custom-made doors she’s having built are installed, which should be any day, she said.

Concert-goers should bring their own chairs and/or blankets.

Ample free public parking is available a short walk from the park, in the municipal lot on West Main Street, just west of Griffing Hardware. Entrances to Grangebel Park are located on West Main Street opposite Griffing Avenue and on the west side Peconic Avenue.
