A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Roanoke Avenue and Middle Road sent four people, two of them children, to Peconic Bay Medical Center Tuesday afternoon.

A Ford SUV, northbound on Roanoke, attempted to make a left turn on Middle Road in front of a Jeep SUV that was heading southbound at about 4:15 p.m. The two vehicles collided and the Jeep continued on and crashed into a utility pole south of Middle Road. The impact of the crash snapped the pole.

Riverhead Fire Department heavy rescue responded to remove the driver’s side door of the Jeep.

Both drivers were transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of injuries police described as non-life-threatening. Two juvenile passengers in the Jeep were transported for observation, police said.

While emergency workers were clearing the accident scene, northbound Roanoke Avenue was closed at the traffic circle; eastbound traffic on Middle Road was diverted at Harrison Avenue and westbound traffic was diverted at Ostrander Avenue.

Police said no summonses were issued as a result of the accident.
