(Updated: Aug. 12, 4 a.m.) Riverhead Police have identified the man found dead in Grangebel Park Tuesday as Victoriano Cohon-Garcia, age 34, of Riverhead.

Cohon-Garcia was discovered floating face-down in the Peconic River in the northeast  side of the park, behind 57 W. Main St., according to police,  who responded to a 911 call at 5:11 p.m.

“It was immediately apparent the subject was deceased and had been in the water for an undetermined amount of time,” Riverhead police said in a press release issued at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The Riverhead Police dive team retrieved the deceased man from the water. He was transported to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.

“At this time the death does not appear to be criminal in nature.  The investigation is ongoing,”  police said in the release. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Riverhead Police Department detective division at 631- 727-4500.
