Riverhead Town Police today said the Aug. 14 inspection of Sabor Latino Restaurant at 192 Old Country Road resulted in the issuance of summonses charging owner Porfirio Rivera with 11 town code violations, 10 New York State Fire Code violations and six State Liquor Authority violations.

Police did not disclose the specifics of the alleged violations.

“I’m sure there will be another referral to the State Liquor Authority,” Riverhead Police Chief David Hegermiller told RiverheadLOCAL on Aug. 15.

Riverhead made a referral to the SLA prior to the inspection,  after three women reported being beaten by two men — one of whom was armed with a baseball bat — during a disturbance at the bar at 3:39 a.m. on Aug. 7. Two men were arrested after that incident. One was charged with assault.

Other incidents at the bar reported by Riverhead Police include arrests for criminal possession of a controlled substance, disorderly conduct and reports of harassment, stolen property, criminal mischief and disturbances — one of which, in in April 2012, was a brawl that sent three men to the hospital.

“The Riverhead Police Department will be conducting similar investigations periodically in order to ensure that establishments that serve alcoholic beverages within the Town of Riverhead are in compliance with the laws set forth by the New York State Liquor Authority, as well as the codes of the Town of Riverhead,” according to a press release from the department issued today.
