A single-vehicle accident on Peconic Bay Boulevard this evening took out a fire hydrant and utility pole.
An SUV left the roadway near Tuts Lane, knocked a fire hydrant off its base and cut a utility pole in half before coming to a rest in the center of the roadway, according to a Jamesport Fire Department press release.
Jamesport Fire Department firefighters responded with one engine and fire police to control traffic.
Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported the male driver of the vehicle to Peconic Bay Medical Center for evaluation, according to an RVAC spokesperson.
Peconic Bay Boulevard was closed to traffic for about 40 minutes, according to the fire department press release.
