Current students recognized as AP Scholars in the fall of 2015 with RHS Principal Charles Regan and Assistant Principal Patrick Burke.

In the fall of each school year, a list of students receiving recognition for their performance on Advanced Placement exams from the previous year is sent to the schools. In the 2014-15 school year, 299 students took 551 AP exams. Thirty-seven of those students received the distinction of receiving the designation of AP Scholars – 11 students were named AP Scholars with Distinction – two were named National AP Scholars.

“We are very proud of the growth that our students have shown in both taking and excelling on AP exams,” states RCSD Superintendent of Schools Nancy Carney. “We applaud our faculty, administrators, and parents for encouraging students to take these rigorous courses that will better prepare our graduates for college. In addition to increasing rigor by encouraging students to take more AP courses, the District has teamed with Suffolk County Community College to to offer our students college credit through Suffolk County Community College’s Early College Program. In 2014-15, 25 students participated in the Early College Program.”

“We are very proud of their accomplishments!” echoes Riverhead High School Principal Charles Regan.

The distinction of AP Scholar is granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams. An AP Scholar with Honor is a student that has received an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. An AP Scholar with Distinction is a student who has received an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. Finally, a National AP Scholar is a student that has received an average score of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.

Below are all students who earned an AP Scholar Award in the 2014-2015 school year. The AP Program offers several AP Scholar Awards to recognize high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams.
