Somewhat warmer weather returns this week, with temperatures in the upper 60s and even topping 70 degrees mid-week, leading up to one of the town’s biggest annual events next weekend, the Riverhead Country Fair on the riverfront Sunday, Oct. 11.

Politics is in the air this week, with two local candidates forums.

Monday, Oct. 5

    • Riverhead IDA meeting, 5:o0 p.m.
    • Environmental forum for Riverhead supervisor candidates, SCCC Culinary, 6-8 p.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 6

      • Riverhead Town Board meeting, Riverhead Town Hall, 2 pm

Wednesday, Oct. 7

      • Teens: Make a fleece to donate. As part of Riverhead Free Library’s “Project Linus,” a workshop is offered Wednesday from 3 to 4 p.m. where teens can earn community service hours by making a handmade fleece blanket for children in need. Donated new blankets and afghans will be accepted all month during regular library hours.
      • PBA fundraiser for fire victims, PeraBell Food Bar, 65 E. Main St.
      • Riverhead Fire Commissioners, RFD headquarters, 6 p.m.
      • Special Ed PTA meeting, Riverhead High School, 6:30-7:30
      • Farmland Preservation Committee, Town Hall, 7 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 8

      • Riverhead Zoning Board of Appeals meeting, Town Hall, 7 p.m.
      • Book & Bottle with Nancy Solomon, author of On the Bay: Bay Houses and Maritime Culture on Long Island’s Marshlands, Suffolk County Historical Society, 6 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 9

    • Get your game on: board games and card games at the Riverhead Free Library, 6-8:30 p.m. (ages 17 and up)
