After falling behind 1-0 early in the second half, a new, more aggressive Riverhead side came to play.  Though they did tie the game with 14 minutes to play, Huntington (6-5 Division II) emerged victorious, 2-1 at Riverhead High School Saturday morning.

The Blue Waves were playing a bit on their heels in the first half with a defensive-minded approach. Though no goals were allowed, no goals were scored either.

Riverhead (7-4 Division II) has been playing quality field hockey, positioning the Blue Waves as high as second place in the 12-team division.

They won four consecutive one-goal games before losing to Smithtown East on Thursday. Though the loss hurts, the Blue Waves are still positioned to make the playoffs for the second straight year with just three games remaining on the schedule.

They’ll travel to Newfield next on Tuesday for a 4 p.m start.
