There is finally a slight chill in the air. It feels like fall. The trees are starting to show us their colors. This is the time to get out for some smash-up fall fishing. The party will be all but over in about five weeks, so get out while the gettin’ is good.

2015_brian_nigro_badgeRob Thompson says fishing for bass, blues and false albacore has been, and continues to be, exciting. Rob feels that the window of opportunity is probably pretty small for this type of fishing here on the North Fork.

Captain Dan Buckley called in from the Orient Star IV to report on a hot start to the black fishing season. Most drops have a good mix of shorts and keepers. Sea bass fishing continues to be the story of the season according to Captain Dan, with most anglers limiting out every single trip. Dan is hoping for a solid month more of this kind of action. Dan is now booking an October 31, open by reservation, blackfish trip, if you want to get in on some fall action.

The Brooklyn Girl in Orient Point reports black fishing is off to a promising start with some anglers catching their limits, and beyond. Fish are running to about seven pounds. Ken says sea bass fishing is just insane! Most anglers are limiting out with fish to four plus pounds. Brooklyn Girl has some limited space on a few split charters, if you want an opportunity to get in on the action.

The Peconic Star Fleet in Greenport continues to put a beating on the porgy/sea bass populations in local waters. When conditions were right, they were even able to drift fish. Dennis Tinnin said the boat was at the dock early today and everyone had their limits!
