A spooky 5K run will be held on Halloween this Saturday at Riverhead High School to benefit the Riverhead Running Club.

The club’s first annual “Trick or Trot” event will feature a 5K race, beginning at 9 a.m., and a half-mile “fun run” for ages 12 and under that begins at 8:30 a.m. Both races will take place on School Street, the road off of Harrison Avenue that runs along Riverhead High School.

The first 150 participants to register in the 5K are guaranteed a long-sleeve synthetic event shirt.

Medals will be awarded to the first three finishers in each age category, from ages 8 and under to over 70.

Early registration, which ends tomorrow, is $20 for the 5K. Participants can also register the day of the race for $25 at the Riverhead High School cafeteria from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. The “fun run,” which is open to ages 12 and under, costs $10 to register.

All proceeds from the event will go directly to the Riverhead Running Club, a not-for-profit organization established in November 2013 to promote running, track and field and cross country in the Riverhead community.

Money raised will be used to purchase uniforms, pay for race entries, cover travel costs incurred when athletes participate in events outside Long Island, fund student athletic scholarships and fund the cost of membership in USA Track and Field.
