The Riverhead Town highway department will begin the annual fall leaf pickup during the week of Nov. 30.

Residents are asked to have their loose leaves at curbside by 7 a.m. on Monday of the week their area is scheduled for pickup.

This year’s schedule is as follows:

Week of Nov. 30 – Laurel Lane to Northville Turnpike
Week of Dec. 7 – Northville Turnpike to Hulse Landing Road
Week of Dec. 14 – Hulse Landing Road to Brookhaven town line

The town says the following requirements will be strictly adhered to:

Do not rake leaves in a line across front of property. Put them in one pile

• Keep your leaves on your property. Do not put them in the road, where they can impede traffic and block storm drains. Do not put loose leaves out until just before your area is scheduled for pickup. You must bag your leaves until then.

• This is a residential pick-up only. The town highway department will not pick up leaves put out by landscapers.

• The town will make only one pass through each area.

Bagged leaves are picked up every week year-round by your district carter on your Thursday or Friday yard waste/bulk items collection day.

The town provides residents with free biodegradable leaf bags, which may be picked up at the highway department facility at 1177 Osborn Avenue in Riverhead during regular business hours.
