Two men took a cab to Maple Avenue, south of the railroad tracks, Sunday night, then displayed a stun gun and attempted to hold up the driver.

Riverhead police are searching for the two men who reportedly attempted to rob a taxi driver on a downtown street last night.

The two men had been passengers in the cab and when they reached their destination on Maple Avenue south of railroad tracks, one of them displayed what appeared to be a taser or stun gun, according to the police report.

The suspects fled on foot in an unknown direction without getting any money or other items from their victim, police said. The cab driver, a female, was not injured in the incident.

Riverhead police patrol units and a K9 unit were dispatched to the scene and a search of the area was conducted with no result.

Police ask anyone with information to call the detective division at 631-727-4500 or the Riverhead Police Hotline at 631-727-6666. All calls will be kept confidential.
