The Riverhead Garden Club’s Greens Sale will be held December 12 at the Old Steeple Community Church, Main Road, Aquebogue on December 12 from 12:30 to 3 p.m.

Seasonal greens available include wreaths, centerpieces, swags and poinsettias. All proceeds raised from the sale go to support local beautification projects and scholarships.

The Garden Club has a membership of 60 active, sustaining and honorary members who meet monthly at the Jamesport Community Center. The club has a number of on-going local projects which include the following:

  • seasonal plantings & maintenance of the atrium of the Skilled Nursing Facility, Peconic Bay Medical Center
  • monthly hands-on floral therapy with patients at the Skilled Nursing Facility, Peconic Bay Medical Center
  • Junior Education Outreach with Girl Scout troop 1108, working with the members to maintain the Roanoke Ave School Star Garden
  • an annual Spring Plant Sale (week after Hospital Sale in May)
  • floral therapy at the State Veterans Home at Stony Brook University each year in the fall
  • maintenance of the Circle of Friendship Garden at the George Young Community Center
  • making holiday decorations for the Hudson-Siklauskus House at Hallockville Farm Museum
  • helping at the Railroad Museum with plantings
  • volunteering at the Peconic Bay Garden Festival each May

The club awards one or two $500 scholarships a year to students interested in pursuing a career in horticulture. An Awards Committee reviews applicant applications and make recommendations to the membership.
