The National Honor Society inducted 66 Riverhead High School students during a ceremony at the high school auditorium Wednesday evening.
“The 2015-2016 school year inductees truly represent a cross-section of our student population,” said Laural Olsen, National Honor Society co-advisor. “There are students who are outstanding in community service, music, dance, languages, art and athletics as well as academics.”
Riverhead’s chapter of the society establishes its own qualifications for membership based off of national guidelines, including a high grade point average.
The induction ceremony Wednesday included a Chinese auction to benefit the Brendan House, a group home on Sound Avenue for traumatic brain injury patients that has not yet been completed.
Riverhead’s National Honor Society chapter has plans to conduct a food drive this winter, and students will also participate in the society’s annual “Helping Hands Day” in February.
