As we come to giving thanks on Thursday I must start by extending a big thank you to my wonderful town Riverhead. Michael and I have had our lives changed and, yes, ripped from us, but we continue on with our faith and the spirit of love.

You, Riverhead, from our businesses to our schools, with friends and strangers alike, have made it possible for The Brendan House to be built. These past four years we watched as donations, love and help and supplies all came in because of Michael Hubbard. I thank God for you all and for you making it possible for 12 patients with different types of traumatic brain injury to live together in harmony.

I am also so overwhelmed by the love and care at Peconic Bay Nursing Facility. We tease that Michael is the mayor at the hospital each and every day he is greeted with hellos and talked too. Michael is given the greatest of respect there and I could not be happier. I think everyone who is an employee of Peconic Bay Medical Center knows Michael. I’m so happy to say I love how Michael has progressed in two years from occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy.

I’m forever grateful to all of Riverhead and so proud to call this town my home. Wishing you all a blessed Thanksgiving. I’m happy to say Michael will be with us, maybe one day eating a Thanksgiving dinner, but he is still on a feeding tube. Thinking back four-and-a-half years, he was on life support and all those machines, so it’s okay.

Much love to you all. The Brendan House is made with your LOVE!

Happy Thanksgiving,
Nancy Reyer

If you would like to work off some turkey, on Friday at 11 a.m. at Brendan House we are having a big clean up party — sweeping, vacuuming, etc. All are welcome to join!
