Riverhead Central School District staff recently hosted a food drive competition to collect goods for the Phillips Avenue Pantry.
Phillips Avenue Elementary School opened its food pantry in January, making it the first school in the district to have an on-site food pantry.
With the holiday season approaching, district administration and staff at the district office decided to hold a food drive competition, with the north wing of the district office competing against the south. Assistant Superintendents David Wicks and Sam Schneider kicked off the competition by going shopping together. The north wing was victorious, especially after a generous contribution from Nancy Raynor, who donated potatoes from her farm.
The food was delivered to Phillips Avenue principal Debra Rodgers, with a promise that the district office would have another drive in time for Christmas.
To find out more about how to make a donation or volunteer for the food pantry, please contact the pantry at phillips.pantry@riverhead.net or by calling 631-591-5987.
