Baiting Hollow resident Dr. Barbara Y. Hulse died Nov. 27, 2015 at home. She was 93 years old.

Born in New Rochelle, New York on November 6, 1922, she was the daughter of Walter Halsey and Lola (Robinson) Young. She grew up in New Rochelle, and then attended Middlebury College in Vermont, where she received her BA degree. She continued her education at Albany Medical College in New York, where she was awarded her Doctor of Medicine degree. She was a family practitioner for a year at the Young homestead in Aquebogue.

Dr. Young married Irving Hallock Hulse, a prominent potato and peach farmer in 1951 and moved into the old Hulse homestead in Baiting Hollow. She was predeceased by her husband in 1998.

She is survived by her sister, Doris Y. O’Brien of New Rochelle, her brother David Halsey Young of Sable River, Nova Scotia; and by three nephews and four nieces.

She was an active member of the Baiting Hollow Congregational Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, clerk, choir member and member of the women’s clubs.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 30, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home, 406 East Main St. in Riverhead. There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, December 1 at 11 a.m. at Baiting Hollow Congregational Church Cemetery, located behind Baiting Hollow Congregational Church, 2416 Sound Ave., Baiting Hollow. Interment will follow.
