East End Arts is pleased to announce a new art exhibit at the Riverhead Town Hall Gallery featuring Jamesport artist Laura Stroh, showing her landscape paintings.
Painter Laura Stroh explains her work in her Artist Statement: “For these paintings, I wanted to paint landscapes with the main idea of showing the viewer a kind of painting that is more expressive than traditional landscape paintings, one that reveals an emotional side to the landscape. I painted these pictures thinking that I would not concentrate on the lines of the piece, as much as I would the colors. Colors especially vibrant, contrasting colors are something an artist can use to create the emotional qualities of the landscape. There are melancholy landscapes which would probably have browns and grays. There are joyful looking landscapes, that may have oranges, reds yellows etc.; colors that would let the viewer know about the way the artist feels about this “happy” scene. And there are so many other kinds of emotions that a landscape may reveal. My idea about expressive landscape painting has everything to do with color and brushstroke. With vibrant color, and a spontaneous brushwork, I feel I can achieve the look of a landscape, but one that expresses another layer of meaning, a more emotional quality to the landscape as well.”
The exhibit will open on Tuesday, March 4 and will run through June and the exhibit is open Mondays through Fridays, 9 AM to 4 PM. The public is welcome; admission is free. All exhibited work is for sale. To purchase, contact East End Arts at 631-727-0900.
