Cody Smith homered, tripled and singled to lead the Blue Waves to an 8-5 victory over Bellport this afternoon.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first, when the Waves came up big with a six-run second inning. Smith, who had a solo home run his first time at bat, hit a bases-clearing triple for two RBIs in the second.

Starting pitcher Josh Brewster got the win, improving Riverhead’s record to 2-1 on the young season.

“It’s always nice to get a win,” Coach Rob Maccone. “We’re over the .500 mark. It’s a nice start.”

The Waves travel to Huntington tomorrow and Deer Park on Thursday for two more non-league games. They face Half Hollow Hills West for the first league series of the season; they host HHW next Wednesday at 4 p.m.
