The Blue Waves slipped to 5-5 Thursday with a 52-41 loss to Smithtown East on the road.
The fast-paced game was tight for three quarters, with the lead bouncing back and forth between the two teams, whose last contest ended in a Waves overtime win.
Things were different Thursday afternoon in Smithtown. The Waves started the fourth quarter down by just one point, 31-30, but watched the game get away from them as the Bulls (7-2) scored 21 points to the Waves' 11.
The Waves host the first-place East Islip Redmen (8-1) on Feb. 9, before going on the road for their final regular season game against Centereach (1-7) Feb. 14. They must win one of their two remaining games in order to earn a place in the post-season playoffs.
