Riverhead Police are searching for a Riverhead man wanted for a stabbing during a large brawl outside the Cinco de Mayo restaurant in Calverton early this morning.
Wanted in the stabbing is 22-year-old Demetris Brown, of Riverhead, who was identified by the stabbing victim, age 23, according to a police report. Police ask anyone with information about the incident to call Riverhead Police at 631-727-4500 ext. 328.
Police said they responded to the report of a large disturbance in the parking lot of the restaurant, located at 3725 Middle Country Road, at 3:36 a.m. Upon arrival, police found 75 to 100 subjects fighting in the parking lot, the roadway and in the parking lot of the FedEx building across the street, according to the report.
Riverhead Police called in several surrounding police agencies to assist in dispersing the unruly crowd, they said.
Police found one male victim with a stab wound who was treated at the scene and then transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps. He was treated and released, police said. Brown fled the area, police said.
Police later learned that Cinco de Mayo had hosted “a highly publicized ’90s style Old School Hip-Hop R&B’ party Saturday night.
