Riverhead firefighters extinguished a vehicle fire in the Wal-Mart parking lot Wednesday afternoon.

The operator of the vehicle said she was driving on Route 58 when she noticed smoke emanating from the front of the car and thought the vehicle was overheating. She said by the time she had pulled into the parking lot, smoke was pouring out from under the hood and had turned black.

Firefighters responded with several engines and quickly doused the flames.

No one was injured during the incident.
