Traveling abroad is a rite of passage for many undergraduate students, providing valuable experience to young adults by allowing them to see the world. For Elizabeth Wells, however, time abroad will be a very unique experience.

Wells, a 2011 graduate of Riverhead High School, has been accepted to “Si parla, si canta!” a prestigious six-week program located in Urbania, Italy, dedicated to improving musicality in the Italian repertoire. Entrance into the program requires applicants to demonstrate their musical skill and collect letters of recommendation from faculty who know their work. Attendance to the program will be a stepping stone in her education in the Operatic Arts.

To fund her trip, Wells is working three jobs on campus on top of being a full-time student. She is asking for donations through GoFundMe.com to help defray the costs of her trip. The goal is $2,600. www.gofundme.com/77l6bo.

Included in the six-week program is intensive Italian instruction at Centro Studi Italiani language school, a weekend excursion to Verona and Venice, which includes guided tours of both of those enchanting cities, a ticket toUrbania, Italy. Wells is a junior music major with vocal concentration at Westminster Choir College. She was a member of the Riverhead Chamber Choir and the Riverhead Blue Masques when in high school, and studied with local vocal teacher Kelley Nassief. She has volunteered with East End Arts the past two summers with the summer camps and worked with the Itzak Perlman community orchestra.
