A Fortunoff Backyard Store has opened on Route 58 in Riverhead.

The store opened last week in the space formerly occupied by Kaufman Allied, which closed last year.

Fortunoff Backyard Stores sells outdoor living and seasonal trim-a-tree products. Riverhead is the company’s 16th location in the tri-state area, according to the company’s website. The stores are operated by Furniture Concepts, a new company started by former Fortunoff executives who had responsibility for outdoor furniture, according to the website.

The store, located at 1189 Old Country Road, is open seven days: Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Fortunoff, named for its founders, opened in Brooklyn in 1922. Its flagship store in Westbury opened in 1964. The company operated four full-line stores and 16 specialty stores until it closed in 2009. Fortunoff Backyard Stores, a portion of the Fortunoff chain, was revived in 2010.
