Joe’s Garage, the new downtown restaurant on the ground floor of Summerwind Square, held a ceremonial ribbon-cutting Thursday evening, where local business owners and town officials gathered for a pre-opening celebration.

The auto-racing themed restaurant (see prior story) plans a March 20 grand opening, but is planning a “soft” launch beginning Tuesday, March 11, when it will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily, said partner Raymond Dickhoff.

Supervisor Sean Walter said when Dickhoff first described the concept of the restaurant, which features five glass overhead doors that open onto a patio overlooking the Peoconic River, “I was like, what are you, crazy?”

“But you only have to look out these glass doors at the vision these men saw,” Walter said, “realizing they had to bring the beauty of the riverfront into where people are eating.”

The supervisor said the new restaurant is “one more step” in making downtown revitalization a reality.
