2013 1212 trunk show

Fine customizable menswear was on display at Vines & Hops Café and Tavern Wednesday, where local sales representatives of a Texas-based clothing company offered free fittings.

Personal stylist Janet Atkinson said she chose the café, which opened in September, because she knows owners Christine and Jeff McKay and because of its proximity to the court buildings and their well-dressed denizens.

“This is kind of an up-and-coming little place in Riverhead. I live locally, and we have the opportunity to have great clients; lawyers around here – the court – and basically the East End of Long Island is really growing. Riverhead is growing,” Atkinson said.

She is one of about 3,000 representatives of J. Hilburn, a seven-year-old company whose part- and full-time stylists travel to their clients to take their measurements and consult with them on clothing items that are highly customizable – down to the color of button stitching and the fabric inside shirt collars.

The company offers shirts, suits, ties, belts, cashmere sweaters, scarves and more, with prices starting at $89 for custom shirts and $750 for custom suits. Atkinson said the company is best known for its shirts, chosen as “best dress-shirts” by Esquire magazine in 2013.

“It’s all about creating your own style,” said Laura Walsh, a representative from Patchogue.

The show netted several accounts, Atkinson said Thursday. She said more shows can be expected at the café as the company’s offerings change by the season.
