The new Starbucks on Route 58 in Riverhead

Starbucks opened its doors — and drive-thru window — on Route 58 in Riverhead today.

The new Starbucks is located in the Sabre Riverhead shopping plaza — along with Dick’s Sporting Goods, Christmas Tree Shops and That, Five Below, Aldi and Buffalo Wild Wings.

It’s the third to Starbucks to open in Riverhead, where the chain currently operates at Tanger Outlets and inside the Riverhead Target store.

The Route 58 Starbucks is a free-standing building with a drive-thru window. It’s the only Starbucks with a drive-thru in eastern Suffolk — the closest Starbucks drive-thru had been in Selden — and one of only a third of the more than 7,000 Starbucks in the U.S. currently with drive-thru access.

The Seattle-based chain is moving to expand its drive-thru restaurants and plans to have drive-thru windows at 60 percent of the 1,500 new U.S. locations the company plans to open this year, according to the company website.

The national retailer, established in 1977 has more than 500 locations in the U.S. It sells health and wellness, sports nutrition, weight management and personal care items. There’s currently one other Vitamin Shoppe on the East End, located in Water Mill.

A spokesperson for The Vitamin Shoppe said today the store will celebrate its grand opening this summer.
