Flanders Little League is dissolving due to lack of participation by players, league president Wayne Ford said. “The numbers have been dwindling every year for the past 10 years,” Ford said. Flanders children interested in playing baseball or softball may now join Riverhead Little League, effective immediately, he said.

Riverhead Little League is extending its registration period, which was set to expire this evening, in order to allow Flanders residents to register, the league said in a statement issued this afternoon.

Registration is online at riverheadlittleleague.org and payment is required at time of registration.

Players ages 5-9 must register by Friday, March 7.

Players ages 10-12 must register by Wednesday, March 5.  Players in this age group must atttend tryouts March 7 and 14 at Pulaski Street School.

Softball tryouts are from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
Baseball tryouts are from 8:00 – 9:30. p.m.

Players should arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled tryout time to allow time to sign in.

Flanders Little League is not fielding any teams this year, said league vice president Scott Wicklund.

“We’re hopefully giving the Flanders kids who want to play the chance to play,” Wicklund said.

Riverhead Little League president Tony Sammartano got permission from the Little League district office this morning to register Flanders residents, Wicklund said.
