Suffolk County Police have arrested a Center Moriches couple after a homeowner called 911 when the pair attempted to break into her home yesterday afternoon.
Samantha Knab, 23, and Michael Willis, 22, rang the doorbell and knocked on the front door of a residence located on Whitmore Lane in Coram at approximately 2:20 p.m. The female homeowner believed the two were solicitors and did not answer the door. The victim called 911 after she noticed that the couple was attempting to break into her home through a kitchen window. The suspects fled prior to police arrival but were located a short time later by Sixth Precinct Patrol Officer John McCrory. The two were attempting to flee the area in a vehicle when they were apprehended.
Further investigation by the Sixth Squad detectives revealed that Knab and Willis, who are girlfriend and boyfriend, were involved in five additional residential burglaries that occurred within the last month. Samantha Knab was charged with five counts of Burglary 2nd Degree, one count of Attempted Burglary 2nd Degree, and one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th Degree. Michael Willis was charged with five counts of Burglary 2nd Degree, Attempted Burglary 2nd Degree, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 2nd Degree.
Knab and Willis, both of 75-11 Wildflower Court, Center Moriches, will be held overnight and are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on August 3.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
