
Act Out East All Children's Theatre, a performing arts education program for children and teens, presented Disney's Beauty and the Beast at the historic Vail-Leavitt Music Hall this weekend.
The children's theater program holds all classes, rehearsals and performances at the 1880s vintage theater.
The program is co-directed by Kim Galway, a registered drama therapist, theater educator, and licensed creative arts therapist, and Kristen Poulakis, a longtime member of the theater arts community. Instruction and coaching are provided by Darby Moore and John Batterman. Russell Weisenbacher is the group's technical director.
During the school year, Act Out East offers children and teens instruction in acting, voice, and dance, while also rehearsing for a full-scale musical theater production. The group also offers two junior programs for children younger than 10. They also offer summer musical theater intensive programs.
ACT Junior's Young Performers Program, for children aged 6 - 9, and its Pre-School Program, for children aged 3 1/2 - 5, will be working with the Broadway musical, "Annie" this spring. The program consistes of 13 weeks of classes in voice, acting, and dance, culminating in a showcase production on the last day of class. The program runs Jan. 24 - May 2.
Act Out's mainstage program for ages 10 and up will be working with "Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jr" beginning Jan. 25. The program runs through May 17, culminating in performances May 20-22.
