2013 1201 santa parade

Santa arrived in Riverhead today.

He was the guest of honor in the annual Lions Club Christmas parade, which also featured scout troops, local fire departments and EMS,  marching bands, classic cars, tractors and horses. Hundreds lined Main Street in downtown Riverhead to cheer the many groups of marchers and catch a glimpse of the visitor from up north.

Following the parade, Supervisor Sean Walter presented Santa with the key to the town — to help him in his delivery of goodies to Riverhead homes just 23 days from now.

Santa then held court on the showmobile stage, visiting with children who’d come to share their Christmas wishes.

The jolly old elf makes his next scheduled public appearance in Riverhead om Dec. 14, when he will arrive downtown by boat during the town’s annual holiday bonfire on the riverfront.
