2012 0820 polish fair

It may have gotten off to a soggy start, but the 38th Annual Polish Town Street Fair and Festival had a picture-perfect finish.

Saturday morning's rain made for mostly empty streets in Polish Town, but the undaunted organizers went forward with the event's regular festivities, including the re-enactment of a traditional Polish wedding. See prior story. By mid-afternoon Saturday, the rain stopped falling, things dried out and people began flocking to the fairgrounds — in time for Saturday night's Polka Festival in Polonaise Park.

Sunday's weather was perfect for browsing the booths lining the streets of Polish Town, partaking in Polish delicacies and enjoying the atmosphere — and throngs of people did just that.

2012 0831 calverton civic bbq

Calverton residents got together for a barbecue hosted Thursday night by the Greater Calverton Civic Association. The gathering, attended by about 75 people, took place at Eagle's Landing at Calverton Links.

The civic group's mission includes providing opportunities for Calverton residents to get to know their neighbors, said Rex Farr, president of the organization.

The barbecue also provided Calverton residents the opportunity to get to know their local elected officials and candidates, who were in attendance in abundance.

Management Productions held its second annual variety show at the Riverhead Free Library Thursday night, featuring music, comedy and original sketches.

The show packed out the library's meeting room for almost two hours worth of performances.

Management Productions, which was founded in summer 2009, is an independent theater group run entirely by young adults from the East End of Long Island. Their next show will be Jonathan Larson's rock musical Tick, Tick... Boom! this coming winter, and they are planning on staging two other shows next summer.
